Paper-cut birds, in detail

Two doves in cut ivory paper, one above the other, wings spread, set on a slightly textured warm grey background. The cast shadows are soft: the birds seem to lift off the wall.

Where to hang it

A bedroom, a living room, an entrance hall. It is a calm, symbolic artwork that evokes a couple or freedom without writing a word.

What it goes with

Dove grey, cream, blond wood, linen. It sits well next to “Embroidered leaves”, with which it shares a taste for texture, and echoes “Two silhouettes” in a hallway.

Which size to choose

The 40 × 50 cm above a console or a headboard. As a pair with another neutral artwork, keep wide spacing: the strength of this image is the space around the birds.

Questions about this artwork

It is an image that faithfully reproduces the effect: a clean cut, a slight relief, a cast shadow. The print itself is flat, but the illusion holds from less than a metre away.

Two doves traditionally stand for a couple and for peace. It is a frequent wedding or housewarming gift, often engraved with two first names and a date.

It is a warm grey, close to putty, not a bluish grey. On a white wall it brings softness; on a coloured wall it calms things down.
