Strata, in detail

A rock face seen head-on: horizontal layers stacked in uneven thicknesses, in ochres, browns and a mineral grey. Some strata are sharp, others blur into the next, as in a real sedimentary cliff.

Where to hang it

A study, an entrance hall, a living room with dark furniture. The horizontal lines visually widen a narrow wall, which makes it useful in a hallway or a stairwell.

What it goes with

Leather, black metal, raw wood, polished concrete. It is the most graphic of the three abstracts: it holds its own in a contemporary interior, where “Clay” and “Dunes” need softness around them.

Which size to choose

The 50 × 70 cm suits it best: the strata need height to unfold. At 30 × 40 cm, the thinnest layers become hard to tell apart from more than two metres away.

Questions about this artwork

Acrylic. The dark layers gain depth and the line between two strata becomes sharper. Matte Fine Art gives a softer result, closer to a sketch.

Portrait. The three sizes on offer are vertical, which matches the way the artwork was composed. We do not offer a landscape version: the composition would be cropped.
