Arch, in detail

A cream arch on a terracotta background, a brick disc suspended just above its top, three horizontal bands in ochre, brick and olive closing off the bottom. Bold flat colours, no texture: the shape does everything.

Where to hang it

A living room, a study, an entrance hall. It is the boldest of the abstracts: it can be seen from the end of the hallway and instantly gives a bare wall a style.

What it goes with

White, black, dark wood, ochre velvet. It holds up in a contemporary interior that the textured abstracts would soften too much.

Which size to choose

The 50 × 70 cm on its own, as a centrepiece. At 40 × 50 cm, flank it with two calmer artworks, “Circles” and “Clay”, for a triptych of earths.

Questions about this artwork

Yes, and that is the challenge with this kind of image: matte Fine Art gives deep flat colours with no sheen. Acrylic makes them more saturated, almost lacquered, if you want a gallery effect.

It is a good spot: the terracotta does not depend on daylight to exist, unlike the pale artworks in the collection.
