Naive bouquet, in detail

Seven butter-yellow flowers with brown hearts, rendered in gouache with simple strokes, in a round terracotta vase. The background is a deep slate grey, almost black, which makes the petals glow like a lamp.

Where to hang it

A living room, a dining room, a kitchen. It is the most joyful piece in the collection, and one of the few with a dark background: it lights up a dark wall instead of getting lost in it.

What it goes with

Forest green, midnight blue, black wood, brass. On a light wall, choose a black frame: it extends the background and avoids the “postage stamp” effect.

Which size to choose

Entirely: the petals are set down in a few brushstrokes, with no visible preparatory sketch. It is a spontaneous painting, not a botanical plate.

On the contrary, it concentrates the light on the flowers. The risk would be hanging it in a room that is already very dark: give it a light wall and indirect lighting.

It is one of the most consensual artworks in the catalogue: flowers, colour, no symbol to interpret. With a first name engraved at the bottom, it becomes personal without becoming intimate.
