Circles, in detail

Circles in broad brushstrokes, overlapping without quite closing: two solid discs, brick and old rose, caught in rings of terracotta, sage and ochre. The gesture stays visible, the edges vibrate, and the very pale apricot background keeps the whole piece soft.

Where to hang it

A living room, an entrance hall, a quiet study. It is a work of contained movement: it brings a wall to life without imposing a subject, and reads as well up close as from afar.

What it goes with

Honey-toned wood, ceramics, brass, warm whites. It naturally extends “Clay” and “Strata”, whose palette it shares; just avoid a salmon wall, which would swallow its background.

Which size to choose

Above a console or a chest of drawers, the 40 × 50 cm is enough. Alone on a large living room wall, it deserves the 50 × 70 cm: the rings gain breadth and the brushwork becomes visible from a distance.

Questions about this artwork

Yes, it is in fact the safest combination: “Circles”, “Clay” and “Dunes” share the same earths and the same light background. Hang them at the same size, in the same finish, about ten centimetres apart.

Neither: a very pale apricot, almost cream. On a pure white wall it creates a warm area; on a wall that is already beige, choose a frame that marks the edge, dark wood or black.

Matte Fine Art paper: its grain catches the light where the paint is densest. Canvas works too, but it adds its own weave to that of the brush.
