Magnolia, in detail

A flowering magnolia branch: one wide-open bloom, powder pink with a golden heart, two buds about to open, light brown wood. The watercolour stays transparent and the cream background is bare.

Where to hang it

An adult bedroom, a girl’s bedroom, a soft living room. It is the most tender of the botanicals, and the only openly floral one: it brings spring without tipping into a bouquet.

What it goes with

Old rose, off-white, brass, velvet. It brightens a dark wall and softens an interior that is too mineral.

Which size to choose

The 40 × 50 cm is its right size: the flower keeps its natural scale and the branch has room to breathe. Above a headboard, you can flank it with two more discreet botanicals at 30 × 40 cm.

Questions about this artwork

Pale: a powder pink that turns ivory at the edges of the petals. If you want a bolder colour, “Retro poppy” plays that role in the collection.

Yes, preferably on canvas, with no glass. Its pastels suit a nursery, and the complimentary engraving lets you add a first name and a date.

By letting it stand alone. It is a single flower, not a pattern: hung with no other flowers around it, it remains an artwork and not a decoration.
